What happened to 18F?
18F, a government digital services agency within the General Services Administration (GSA), was launched in 2014 to modernize federal IT. Over the next decade, it completed 455 projects across 34 federal agencies, contributing to efforts in digital transformation and agile development. On March 1, 2025, the GSA formally terminated 18F by executive order as part of a reduction-in-force effort, citing budgetary constraints and a shift in federal technology priorities.
With 18F no longer available as an in-house resource, agencies must now turn to private-sector partners who understand government needs, security protocols, and compliance requirements.
